Medicare

Medicare guidance without the overwhelm.

Turning 65, retiring, moving, losing employer coverage or reviewing your current plan? Ellen helps you understand the choices available to you.

Understanding Medicare

The parts and paths can feel complicated.

Medicare is federal health insurance generally for people age 65 or older and certain younger people with disabilities. Your coverage may involve Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, a Medicare Supplement policy and/or Part D prescription drug coverage. The right fit depends on your doctors, prescriptions, travel, budget and preferences.

Medicare Advantage

Private plans that provide Part A and Part B coverage and often include Part D. Networks, costs and extra benefits vary by plan.

Medicare Supplement

Policies that can help pay certain costs left by Original Medicare. These policies work differently from Medicare Advantage.

Part D Drug Coverage

Prescription drug coverage offered through stand-alone plans or included in many Medicare Advantage plans.

Annual Plan Reviews

Coverage, medications and provider needs can change. A review can help you understand whether your current plan still fits.

Common questions

Medicare FAQs

Do I automatically get Medicare at 65?

Some people are enrolled automatically and others must enroll. Timing depends partly on Social Security status and current coverage.

Is Medicare Advantage the same as a Medicare Supplement?

No. They are different ways to manage Medicare coverage and generally are not used together.

Can my plan change each year?

Plan benefits, costs, networks and formularies can change. Reviewing your Annual Notice of Change is important.
